Choosing a Practitioner or Master

Choosing a Reiki practitioner or master is a tender process — one guided more by intuition than credentials. Reiki works best when you feel comfortable, supported, and understood, so allow yourself to notice how a practitioner’s presence feels. Do they communicate clearly? Do they speak about their lineage with respect? Do you sense integrity in the way they hold their work? These small cues matter.

Each practitioner brings their own flavour of Reiki shaped by their training and lived experience. Some offer a purely traditional approach; others weave in meditation, sound, drumming, or work with animals. As someone whose lineage spans Usui, Tanran, Holy Fire, Karuna, Animal Reiki and Reiki Drumming, I’ve learned that every style has its own medicine — and the right teacher is simply the one whose medicine feels aligned with you.

When selecting a Reiki master, look for someone who creates a grounded, welcoming space for learning. A good teacher doesn’t just pass on techniques; they model compassion, presence, and authenticity. They help you discover your own relationship with the energy rather than asking you to mirror theirs.

In my own garden studio here in Coomba Park, I keep classes small and intimate so students can explore at their own pace. Whether you train with me or another teacher entirely, my advice is always the same: choose the practitioner who helps you feel more like yourself — calm, open, and connected. Reiki begins there.
