Being a Drum Doula

A drum doula is a sacred guide, a witness, and a keeper of space.

Just as a birth doula supports the arrival of new life, a drum doula accompanies the emergence of a living, breathing instrument — a drum that will carry prayers, stories, and the heartbeat of its maker into the world.

This role is more than teaching a craft. It is a path of service.

When you hold space as a drum doula, you are tending to both the seen and unseen. You are supporting the practical steps of drum-making while also guiding a transformational journey. The materials you work with — hide, frame, cord, water, fire, breath — are not just physical objects. They are gifts of the earth, each with a story, each deserving respect and care.

A drum is not merely constructed; it is born.

And every birth has its moments of challenge, joy, release, and deep emotion. The drum doula stands steady in the midst of it all, offering compassion, presence, and trust in the process.
