Drum Making Journey

$666.00

Held gently. Made by hand. Guided with care.

These drum-making sessions are not workshops in the traditional sense. They are slow, attentive journeys — a held space where you are supported to birth a drum that is uniquely yours.

Whether you arrive with a clear calling or quiet curiosity, you are guided step by step through the process of creating a frame drum by hand, using natural materials and traditional lacing techniques. No rush. No pressure. Just steady guidance, presence, and time.

I hold the role of Drum Doula — supporting the process, reading what’s needed, and tending both the practical and subtle moments that arise along the way.

What These Sessions Offer

Each session is shaped around you and the drum you are bringing into form.

You’ll be supported with:

  • Guidance through each stage of the drum-making process

  • Skilled, hands-on assistance with lacing, tensioning, and finishing if required

  • Space to pause, feel, listen, and adjust as needed

  • A calm, respectful environment that honours the hide and materials used

  • Gentle holding of any emotional, energetic, or reflective moments that may surface

No prior experience is needed. These sessions are suitable whether this is your first drum or your fifth.

The Materials

Drums are made using carefully sourced natural materials, most commonly:

  • Kangaroo or Deer hide (ethically sourced and prepared)

  • Hand-crafted Paulownia timber frames in 14”

Materials are chosen with respect and intention. The process honours the animal, the land, and the lineage of hand-made instruments.

If you have specific questions or preferences around materials, we can discuss these before your session.

How the Sessions Are Held

Drum-making sessions are offered as:

  • Private one-on-one journeys, or

  • Very small group sessions (usually capped at 2–4 people)

Each format allows for close attention, spacious pacing, and genuine care.

Sessions are held in my studio space on the Mid North Coast, NSW, surrounded by nature and quiet. Tea is served. Silence is welcome. Conversation is optional.

This Is Different to Buying a Drum

You don’t need to make a drum to own a powerful instrument — and buying a finished drum is a beautiful and valid path.

These sessions are for those who feel called to:

  • Touch every stage of the making

  • Work directly with the hide

  • Experience the slow forming of sound under their own hands

  • Build relationship with the drum from its very first breath

Neither path is better. They are simply different.

Practical Details

  • Bookings: By enquiry

  • Timing: Sessions vary depending on format and group size

  • Investment: Shared on enquiry (includes materials and guided support)

  • Location: Coomba Park, NSW

Because these sessions are intentionally small and carefully held, availability is limited.

If You Feel the Call

If something in you is quietly leaning forward — that’s enough.

You’re welcome to reach out with questions, curiosity, or a simple “I think this might be for me.” We can have a conversation and see what feels aligned.
